“Almost anything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including YOU.” ~Anne Lamott
Throughout our lives we are programmed to care for everyone else but ourselves. We are kind, compassionate and generous to everyone, but when the time comes to do all of that for ourselves, a sense of guilt and self-judgement takes over us.
Self-care is NOT selfish, it is integral to healing. By practicing self-care, and learning to extend love toward yourself, you begin to cultivate feelings of self-worth, strength, and resiliency, leaving behind self-abuse and harmful coping mechanisms used to mask negative feelings you’ve had about yourself.
Self-care is important to live a balanced life and it helps you become more mindful of your thoughts, behaviors and actions. When you love yourself, your love tank is full and you can now give from your overflow…
HOW TO SELF-CARE?
Simply take time to do what you love! At times, we are so busy pleasing everyone that we even forget WHAT we love. Spend some time with yourself, get to know you and start putting your needs first!
Here are a few tips on how to self-care:
1. Meditation and/or yoga
3. Socializing with friends
4. Arts – drawing, dancing, singing, or simply listening to music
5. Spending time in solitude in nature.
These are simply suggestions. Think about what self-care looks like for you? Share your thoughts with us. To receive ‘Seeds to Happiness’ blogs into your email, please subscribe below.
