Is your Himalayan Salt Authentic or a Fake?

So with all these suppliers online and nearby, how can you tell if the lamp is authentic or fake? Watch for these warning signs:

1. It costs close to nothing and looks very white.white-salt-trans
Himalayan Mountains have a limited resource of salt, especially deep red and pure white variety, and the governments of these countries raise the taxes on mining companies on an annual basis. A small size white or red Himalayan salt lamp would normally cost several times more than the pink variety.

2. It is very large and heavy, but gives out a lot of light.
Once a genuine Himalayan salt lamp exceeds about 20 pounds, it will no longer emit light in a uniform pattern. That’s just the nature of genuine Himalayan salt.If you’ve got a large lamp that seems to light up your entire bedroom, that’s a good sign it’s made of something other than real salt.

3. It is unbreakable.himalayan_salt_lamp_medium-61-trans
Authentic Himalayan Salt Lamps are fragile. If you dropped your lamp or the shipping box came damaged, but the lamp looks good, it is probably not genuine

4. Your lamp handles moisture well
If you salt lamp is genuine, then it will absorb all the moisture around, start sweating and shrinking overtime. Himalayan salt lamps should be kept in dry areas. You could test it by rubbing the lamp with wet cloth. The lamp should start weeping and look smooth.

5. No changes in health and surrounding
Now a Himalayan Salt Lamp is not going to fix all your health issues, but after a few weeks of having it on you should notice a few changes:

  • reduced allergy and asthma symptoms
  • increased energy level
  • less depression and anxiety
  • better sleep patterns
  • less stress

If you’ve had a fake lamp with no results after a few weeks, it could be mixed with toxins like fluoride. Hi my name is christy. I just purchased a pink Himalayan salt lamp on amazon. Would you guys be able to tell me if it’s real? It’s by hemingway. It just came in today. It had dirt and clay chunks on the salt. Just exactly how fragile is fragile? How much money should one cost? I got mine for $24. How soon should you notice results of health changes? I got the kind of lamp that is a basket with chunks of salt, so that I can remove the salt and use them in my infrared sauna when I want. I don’t know a whole lot about the salt. How fast should the Himalayan sault resolve in bath tub if I wanted to bathe with some in there. They’re about the size of golf balls. Sorry for all the questions.

      Dear Christy,

Congratulations on your purchase. I will be happy to help you with some of your questions. I cannot speak for other companies’ lamps being real or fake. However, I can tell you that the salt lamps generally last a very long time, unless they get wet or break there is no way for them not to serve you for years to come. Depending on the size they can be more or less fragile. If you drop them they might crack or break. $24 is a descent price for a small lamps. Salt Lamps emit Negative ions that clean the air and help people with respiratory issues. Depending on the size of the salt pebbles, Himalayan salt generally takes a little longer time to dissolve in the bath, as it is rock salt. Golf ball size will probably not dissolve in one time. I picked up a basket lamp filled with the salt at a yard sale. Some of the crystals are white or pinkish white. How do I know it’s real and not just chunks of table salt? Some of the white chunks have pieces of pink in them as if they were grown together. The salt is definitely real salt it tastes like salt.

      Dear Daniel,

Himalayan Salt has 84 minerals and elements, depending on the concentration of certain minerals the coloring may vary. Hope this helps.

Hi. How to buy genuin Himalayan salt for cooking. There are many fakes. What sites sell this one? I bought at Amazon. And it was fake. I read that it should be dissolved in a water. If water got pink it would be fake. And it happened to my salt. Thank you.

I make tabbouleh and have started using Himalayan sea salt. Bought from a supermarket so I thought it was alright. Now I doubt it because if I leave the salad covered in the fridge for a few hours or overnight, the salad ingredients have turned pink………
If Himalayan sea salt contains very little more good minerals than sea salt, what’s the point of buying it?

    • saltroomlv November 3, 2019 at 1:23 am #

      Dear Elaine,

It’s interesting to me that your Tabbouleh turns pink from healing it overnight. Authentic Himalayan salt should not give out color, in fact it is not too pink. The salt we carry here is slightly pink, and the fine one is almost off-white. I have been personally using it for years and never had a coloring issue. Try to check the source of the salt that you purchase from grocery store.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.

      Sincerely,

      Ava
